Este Tribunal era la \u00fanica fuente de jurisdicci\u00f3n de almirantazgo en el Canal hasta entonces. El procedimiento seguido por el Tribunal del Almirantazgo de Panam\u00e1 se asemeja en cierta medida al de un Tribunal de Distrito de los Estados Unidos.<\/p>\n<p>A medida que pasaron los a\u00f1os y crecieron los litigios mar\u00edtimos, en 2001 se estableci\u00f3 un Segundo Tribunal Mar\u00edtimo, que comparte jurisdicci\u00f3n con el Primer Tribunal Mar\u00edtimo sobre los casos que surgen del comercio mar\u00edtimo.<\/p>\n<p>Los Tribunales Mar\u00edtimos pueden ejercer jurisdicci\u00f3n in rem sobre los buques o carga que se encuentren en Panam\u00e1, incluyendo aquellos que transiten el Canal de Panam\u00e1 y atraquen en puertos paname\u00f1os.<br \/>\nLa jurisdicci\u00f3n in personam se adquiere mediante el secuestro de bienes pertenecientes al demandado que se encuentren en Panam\u00e1, que pueden consistir en un buque, carga, combustibles o cualquier otro bien del demandado.<\/p>\n<p>Para secuestrar un buque in rem o in personam con secuestro mar\u00edtimo o \u00abquasi in rem\u00bb, el demandante debe consignar una fianza por la suma de US$1,000.00 y depositar US$2,500.00 con el Alguacil del Tribunal para cubrir los gastos iniciales de secuestro.<\/p>\n<p>La simplicidad de este procedimiento hace que sea muy atractivo para que los demandantes secuestren a las embarcaciones que transitan por el Canal de Panam\u00e1 o hacen escala en puertos paname\u00f1os.<\/p>\n<p>Los Tribunales Mar\u00edtimos est\u00e1n disponibles las 24 horas del d\u00eda, los 365 d\u00edas del a\u00f1o, para atender asuntos urgentes, incluyendo secuestros, medidas conservativas y levantamiento de secuestros.
